A Lehighton man, who stole a checkbook from a relative and then forged some of the checks to obtain cash, entered a guilty plea in Carbon County court on Thursday.

He was one of two defendants in theft-related cases to enter a plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.Two casesShaun A. Mann,21, entered pleas in two pending cases. Mann admitted taking the checkbook of his father, Roderick Mann, Franklin Township, and forging some of the checks to obtain cash. In the second case he pleaded to using a check to make a purchase from Supreme Wireless. He pleaded to two counts of theft and one of forgery. Another listed victim of the thefts was the Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Lehighton branch.On the forgery and one theft count, Serfass sentenced Mann to serve one to one day less 24 months in prison. On the second theft charge he was placed on probation for 24 months consecutive to the other charges. He was also ordered to make restitution to Supreme Wireless for $821.82, and render a total of 300 hours of community service over the length of his sentences.He was given credit for 164 days already spent in jail on the charges and was paroled.Shoplifting incidentTanya Louise Partington,26, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of retail theft.She was arrested on Sept. 16, 2015, at the Family Dollar Store in Palmerton for taking $9.28 worth of merchandise.Serfass placed her on probation for a year, consecutive to another sentence she is currently serving, and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
