A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term Monday after previously pleading guilty to a drug charge and admitting participating in a drug sale while her 8-year-old child was in the vehicle.

Amanda Louise Moyer, 30, of Lehighton, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve 30 days in prison followed by 36 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring.Moyer was arrested by Jim Thorpe police in May 2015 for selling heroin to a confidential informant. While making the sale she had the child in her vehicle.Defense attorney Gregory L. Mousseau asked Serfass to allow Moyer to serve the entire 90 days on electronic monitoring and not impose the 30 days in prison. He said Moyer has two young children at home and she must care for them. Moyer told Serfass she had no one to care for the children. However, when questioned by Serfass, Moyer said her mother lives in the Jim Thorpe area.Mousseau also said Moyer is currently in a methadone clinic receiving treatment regularly and that the county prison rules would not permit her to continue that treatment. However, after a brief recess in which Serfass, Mousseau and Assistant District Attorney Brian Gazo conferred with prison officials, it was decided Moyer would get the prison term on consecutive two-day increments of Tuesday to Thursday beginning at 7 a.m. each time and receive her treatment.Serfass said he was unwilling to drop the jail term considering the circumstances of the incident in which the child was in the vehicle.In addition to the prison term, Serfass ordered Moyer to render 150 hours of community service when she finishes the prison term, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use, continue her methadone treatment, get a more comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the IPP.
