Winter's first blast Tuesday was relatively minor in terms of snowfall, but was enough to cause headaches for motorists.

About an inch of snow that fell on frozen macadam roads proved treacherous.A woman was able to crawl out of her vehicle and was helped by passers-by after her vehicle rolled over in Kline Township near the border of Rush Township.Responders were dispatched to the Mile Hill, Route 309, Claremont Avenue, at the village of Ginthers at 1:57 p.m. Tuesday.The crash took place in the northbound lanes and involved a Jeep Cherokee Laredo.The driver managed to free herself from the wreckage and was cared for at the scene by other travelers until paramedics arrived."She just seems to be mostly shaken up," said a passing motorist who stopped to help. He declined to provide a name.Twenty minutes later, responders and road crews were dispatched to another crash at Route 54, Mintzer's Hill, and icy conditions on the Vulcan Hill.At 3 p.m., another crash was reported on Catawissa Road, Schuylkill Township.Hazardous roads also were reported throughout the Panther Valley.Near Lansford, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation truck slid into an empty school bus and then an oil truck on Route 902.Slick, dangerous conditions also were reported on Bugzie's Mountain.Slick roads resulting in hazardous driving conditions were reported throughout the area as the light snowfall covered the ground in sub-freezing temperatures. Most area schools were operating on a two-hour delay today after sudden drops in temperatures caused black ice conditions on the roads.
