The Slatington Woman's Club Girl of the Month for January is Erika Algard of Walnutport.

The youngest of five children, she has two brothers, James and Andrew, and two sisters, Stephanie and Jacqueline.A senior at Northern Lehigh High School, she is involved in numerous activities, including president of The Slate newspaper, where she organizes agendas and deadline dates. She is also in the Spanish Club, SADD, Scholastic Scrimmage and various science-related activities.Honors include Principal's Award, two Presidential Awards and a Senatorial Award for displaying leadership and possessing high grades. Additionally, she won national medals, a silver and a bronze, when she was 10 years old for competitive muzzleloader shooting.Erika enjoys the outdoors. She loves hunting and fishing. She likes to get her hands dirty and says she would rather be outside doing yard work than sitting on the couch. Most Sundays she goes to competitive black powder muzzleloader shoots with her father.Her plans include going to college to become a meteorologist. Once she obtains her degree, she hopes to work for either AccuWeather or The Weather Channel as a researcher.
