Proposals for a project to improve four bridges on the Chestnut Ridge Railroad in Palmerton are again being accepted.

The Horsehead Corporation will accept bids for the rehabilitation of the bridges, including various concrete and track repairs, until 3 p.m. Feb. 2.At that time, the bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.The project will include work to the Delaware Avenue Bridge, including special concrete repairs on the pier and abutments; the West Aquashicola Creek Bridge, including special concrete repairs on piers 2-4, abutment 2 and the reinforced concrete deck, and installation of new timber deck ties and graduated timber approach track; East Aquashicola Creek Bridge, including Pier 1 concrete repairs and installation of new timber tie deck and graduated timber tie approach track; and the Trestle Bridge, including multiple pier encasements, new timber deck ties, and improvements to the west end of the bridge and approach track.A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 19. Prospective bidders are directed to meet in the Horsehead Corporation parking lot, immediately outside the main entrance gate and adjacent to Delaware Avenue in Palmerton Borough.Originally, a bid opening was scheduled for August, but was delayed after Horsehead Corporation decided to push back the opening to give bidders more time to get their bids together.
