At the January reorganization meeting last week, the Eldred Township board of supervisors had a number of positions left open. A special meeting was held Monday to fill those positions.

The most critical of the appointments to be filled was that of solicitor. Vice Chairwoman Joann Bush made a motion to hire attorney Ron Karasek to fill the position at rate of $160 per hour. Due to Karasek's other commitments, a motion was also passed to change the board meetings to the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.Bush also made a motion to reappoint attorney Chad Martinez as the zoning hearing board solicitor. The alternate member for the zoning hearing board is still undecided.Supervisor Sharon Solt resigned from the community center committee.The voting committee members for the community center for 2016 were appointed. Carry Krum will serve as chairwoman and buildings and grounds director, Ann Velapocheck will serve as coordinator and secretary. Linda Kile will serve as financial secretary, and Darcy Gannon will handle marketing and advertising for the community center. Donna Diehl was appointed to research and write grant applications. Shirley Krum and John Kile will also serve as voting members.During the reorganization meeting, Chairwoman Mary Anne Clausen was appointed as the supervisor representative to CJERP and Robert Boileau was appointed as the planning representative. But the board failed to make a motion to appoint one of the representatives as the voting members. Clausen made a motion to appoint Boileau as the voting member for the township.Part-time positions with the township were also filled. Sylvia Geffen was hired as the part-time temporary assistant secretary/treasurer to help handle the transition to a new hire for the full-time position. Geffen was hired at $15 per hour. The current secretary/treasurer is Solt, who is retiring Friday.Two part-time, as-needed road crew positions were also filled. Nick Saltier and Archie Craig were hired to assist the department with snow removal. Both will earn $15.29 per hour.
