While they're skiing prowess may not necessarily have burned up the slopes, they deserve an "A" for effort, no less.

Not much else was expected, quite frankly, from the beginner skiers and snowboarders who got up enough gumption to take to Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton on Friday in their quest to join the record books.Just one day after it held its opening - except for just a few days before the holidays - Blue Mountain took a run at the world's largest lesson, joining ski areas worldwide to participate in a challenge of all challenges.The objective was to set the Guinness World Record for the most skiers and snowboarders learning to ski and snowboard at the same time.While mostly for fun, the stakes were high, according to Melissa Yingling, marketing specialist for Blue Mountain Resort,"It's a nationwide attempt at breaking a world record," Yingling said. "We'll submit all of our proof at the end, and eventually we'll find out which time zone wins the title."To kick off Learn to Ski & Board month, Yingling said Blue Mountain offered a special rate for first time skiers to participate in the lesson.The first 100 skiers who registered received a lift ticket, rentals, and a spot in the lesson, said Yingling, all for just $10."Attendance is great," she said. "There are a lot of people out here."Some, such as Christian Urena, of Costa Rica, gave it their best to learn how to ski.Urena said he was in the area because he has family who live in New Jersey."I came here to learn a lesson on how to ski," Urena said. "I'm nervous a little, excited a lot."Also enchanted with being on the slopes was Iriana Moya of Easton, who took her initial try at snowboarding."I was scared at first, but now I'm pretty confident," Moya said.The event consisted of many lesson groups, both for skiing and snowboarding.Ski and snowboard lessons were taught separately.
