The Carbon County Action Committee will host a special training session at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Zion Church 225 Iron St. Lehighton, for everyone who is interested in volunteering for the point in time count. The committee is partnering with Family Promise, Peaceful Knights, and CareerLink to conduct the count Jan. 27-28.

Volunteers will be organized into teams of three to four to walk Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Lansford, and Weatherly on the night of Jan. 27 or morning of Jan. 28 to locate anyone homeless in the county.The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development conducts an annual count of the homeless population on one night, nationwide. The count determines how funding will be distributed in the future to help the homeless.Anyone unable to volunteer for the walk but still wishing to participate can do so by driving around your community the night or morning of the count and keep your eye out for anyone that may be homeless.If you find anyone homeless, or if you know someone who is homeless on the night of the count, or you want to put together a team to conduct a walk in another Carbon County community, please contact 610-377-6400, ext. 223 so we can include everyone in the count and connect them with services.
