Naked man prompts police activity in Slatington

Downtown Slatington was busy with police activity this morning after a naked man, bleeding from his head, was observed running along the 800 block of Main Street.

Borough Police Chief David Rachman said the disturbance began around 4 a.m. in the 800 block of Main Street. Upon arrival, Rachman said police noticed a naked man running northbound on Main Street.Rachman said the officer chased and caught up to the unidentified man.The man, Rachman said, told police he was pistol whipped and robbed at 801 Main St., first floor.At that point, he said the officer, along with surrounding officers from Walnutport and Palmerton police departments, surrounded the building.The officers attempted to make contact with the parties inside, but no one would respond to the door, Rachman said.He said the Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team arrived on scene, and took over the perimeter of the building.Eventually, Rachman said several people came out of the apartment, and were taken in for questioning."At no time was anyone in danger," Rachman said. "We got as many people out as we could, the bus routes were altered, the school district was notified, and the surrounding area was blocked off."Rachman said the situation was under control by around 8 a.m.Also assisting at the scene were state police from the Bethlehem barracks.
