Clements, Hall receive top honors

The 2015 high school football campaign provided many exciting moments for Times News area fans this season.

Five out of the nine TN teams were fortunate enough to qualify for the postseason, with the Marian Colts winning a District 11 championship, defeating Tri-Valley in the Class A title game.Northwestern qualified for the D-11 Class AA championship game for the second consecutive season, but came up short in a hard-fought battle against Notre Dame (Green Pond).Lehighton finished the regular season with a 10-0 record and made it all the way to the District 11 Class AAA championship contest, where it lost to state semifinalist Saucon Valley.Pleasant Valley (AAAA) and Jim Thorpe (AAA) both qualified for the Eastern Conference playoffs, but lost in their first round matchups - the Bears to Reading and the Olympians to Southern Lehigh.Now that the season is over, it's time to honor those who stood above the rest with the 2015 Times News All-Star Football Team selections.The Times News selects one Player of the Year (Wyatt Clements), which was released on Wednesday, an Offensive Player of the Year, and a Defensive Player of the Year.In addition to the three major award winners, the TN also selects a player of the year for each individual position group (shown on the following page).TN Defensive Player of the YearWyatt Clements, Lehighton (LB)Wyatt "The Riot" as he has become known over the last two seasons was a terror on both sides of the ball in 2015, which is why he was also named TN POY along with TN Defensive POY. Clements came up with 132 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Clements was also named to the Class AAA All-State Football Team at the linebacker position.Quotable: "Obviously Wyatt's physical tools are a part of what makes him such a good football player, but it's really his approach to the game that sets him apart from the others. His football IQ is off the charts as well. He really is a complete player." - Lehighton coach Tom McCarroll.TN Offensive Player of the YearHarry Hall, Northwestern (RB)Hall turned in another fantastic performance at running back this season for the Tigers fresh off his 2014 TN POY campaign. Hall rushed for 1,651 yards on the season and 23 touchdowns. Hall also became Northwestern's all-time leading rusher and all-time leader in touchdowns scored this past season.Quotable: "Harry has been literally a record breaking kid for us and he's been one of our leaders during our successful run over the past two seasons.
