Busy month ahead at the opera house

The date for the concert by the Eric Mintel Quartet at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, 14 W. Broadway, Jim Thorpe, has been changed from Jan. 9 to Feb. 6.

Mintel formed his quartet in 1993 and has accumulated a host of accolades since then. His Mauch Chunk Opera House concert will feature classic television scores.His band includes Nelson Hill on sax, bassist Jack Hegyi and drummer Dave Mohn.What's coming up in January?• It's a New Year's Eve Dance Party on Thursday. Dance all night to DJ personality Doctor John spinning all the greatest hits of the '70s, '80s and '90s. It's a retro dance party that will take you back while moving you into 2016.• Saturday: Be prepared to be transported by Iconic Songs of the '70s, a new symphonic pops show featuring the powerful vocals of singer-songwriting duo Swearingen & Kelli, highlighting some of the greatest songs from that era.• Jan 15: Steve Forbert has received a Grammy nomination, seen his songs performed by Keith Urban, Rosanne Cash and Marty Stuart, and appeared opposite Cyndi Lauper in her music video for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."• Jan. 16: The New West Guitar Group incorporates a new musical texture to their already highly entertaining show. Her mix of contemporary jazz and singer-songwriter style makes Sara Gazarek a unique voice and perfect blend with the band.• Jan. 22: The Dirty Bourbon River Show melds sounds that range from hard-edge blues to Lisztian piano-driven ballads to New Orleans brass into a result that is truly a blast of new energy into the musical landscape.• Jan. 23: KICK is a unique blend of incredibly talented musicians who bring the highest level of musicianship to the audience while showing a true passion for the music of INXS.• Jan. 24: 40 Story Radio Tower with Craig Thatcher and Nyke Van Wyke as musical guests. The dynamics and energy of their performance captivate listeners of all ages with a unique blend of styles ranging from blues to rock, fingerstyle to Celtic and everything in between.• Jan. 29: Donna the Buffalo's feel-good, groove-oriented, danceable and often socially conscious music has roots in old time fiddle music that evolved into a soulful electric Americana mix infused with elements of Cajun/zydeco, rock, folk, reggae and country.• Jan. 30: Dead On Live. Audience participation is at the core of the Dead community and the set list for the evening will highlight this, featuring a full night of the best tunes from the Dead's extensive catalog.On the schedule for February• Feb. 12 and 13: Tusk covers all the great hits of Fleetwood Mac, which has featured the talents of Mick Fleetwood, Christine and John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and others over the years. These shows are part of Jim Thorpe's WinterFest Festival.• Feb. 20: Popa Chubby's latest collection of jet-fueled originals exemplifies his guitar mastery. He says, "Besides the excitement and the feeling of raw power, all I can tell you is you need rock 'n' roll in your soul and I am the man in control."• Feb: 26: Ten Band. One of AXSTV's "Worlds Greatest Tribute Bands," Ten is the nation's premier fan tribute to the legendary rock band Pearl Jam. Touring the U.S. and beyond since 2003, the band has played over 550 shows nationwide to standing room only crowds.• Feb. 27: Craig Thatcher's Tribute to Cream. Guitarist Craig Thatcher has put together an explosive Cream tribute show that includes all of Cream's greatest hits like "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room," "Crossroads," and "Badge" as they pay homage to the world's first super trio with this spectacular show.Looking forward to March• March 4: In a career that has already spanned a half-century, Jorma Kaukonen has been one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music, blues, and Americana, and at the forefront of popular rock 'n' roll.• March 5: Kashmir is the most authentic representation of Led Zeppelin on the modern national touring scene. Each of the four band members assumes their individual role with pinpoint accuracy.• March 11: Jane Lee Hooker is a band of five women from New York City who infuse the grit and attitude of their hometown into the blues.
