Two people were injured as a result of a one-vehicle crash in Tamaqua on Monday.
Brenda Ernst, 53, of Tamaqua was driving east in the 500 block of Broad Street, shortly after noon, when she lost the feeling in her feet.She lost control of the GMC Jimmy as she was rounding a sharp curve in the middle of the block.The SUV crossed the sidewalk, went up a small slope, struck landscaping columns and came to rest atop the concrete front steps at 518 E. Broad St.A 14-year-old passenger was able to get out of the vehicle, suffering minor injuries. Ernst had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad due to the vehicle's position and the deployment of both front air bags.Both women were transported to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus in Coaldale in a Tamaqua Community Ambulance.Paramedics with the Lehighton Ambulance also assisted the victims.The Jimmy sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.Traffic was detoured around the scene by Tamaqua Fire Police.Tamaqua police are investigating the cause of the accident.Also responding were personnel from Tamaqua's East End and American Hose fire companies.
