A Schuylkill County judge has sentenced a Tamaqua man, whom police found passed out in a car in Tamaqua in May, to up to 23 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance.

Judge James Goodman on Nov. 12 sentenced Anthony Napolitano, 30, to serve one to 23 months in the county jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Two other charges of the same offense were dropped in plea negotiations.The charges were filed by Tamaqua police on May 30.Goodman also sentenced Napolitano to pay the costs of prosecution, and gave him credit for the 166 days he had already served. Tamaqua police at about 5 p.m. May 30 found Napolitano, passed out in the driver's seat, and two other people in the car in the 300 block of Penn Street.Goodman also sentenced three others who pleaded guilty after being charged by local police:Robert Rex, 21, of Tamaqua: Charged by Tamaqua police with flight to avoid apprehension after an incident on April 2. Goodman sentenced him to one to two years in state prison, with credit for 83 days served.Rex had been eluding law enforcement authorities since Feb. 3 since walking away from an inpatient rehabilitation facility on Feb. 2. He had been placed there as a condition of his parole on felony assault charges.Probation officers went to his Tamaqua home several times in an attempt to apprehend him, including on March 13 when he escaped through a third-floor bedroom window and fled into the woods.At 4:05 p.m. on April 2, officers from Tamaqua, Coaldale and McAdoo went to the Rex home. While Rex wasn't there officers received information that he was possibly at 71 Bowe St. They went there and found Rex, who fled, running through yards toward Mahanoy Street, only to be caught.Nathan Fritz, 27, of Tamaqua: Charged by Tamaqua police on Feb. 9 with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Goodman sentenced him to pay $110 in restitution to the Time Will Tell pawnshop, and serve three to 23 months in the county jail. The charge of receiving stolen property was dropped in plea negotiations.Joshua Huegel, 33, of Andreas: Charged by Tamaqua police on Nov. 7, 2014, with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, failure to stop at a red light, and speeding.Goodman sentenced him to three to 23 months in the county jail, with credit for four days served on the fleeing charge; and fined him $25 for speeding. The charge of running a red light was dropped in plea negotiations.Dennis J. Kristoff III, 33, of St. Clair: Charged by Rush Township police with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving, and improper sunscreening on April 28, 2013.Goodman sentenced him to 72 hours to six months in the county jail on the DUI charge, fined him $25 for improper sunscreening, and perform 10 hours of community service. Kristoff will also lose his license for a year. The careless driving charge was dropped in plea negotiations.John Joulwan, 52, of Pottsville: Charged by Coaldale police with three counts of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and disregarding traffic lanes after an incident on Nov. 18, 2014. Judge John J. Domalakes sentenced him to 72 hours to six months in the county jail, fined him $1,000, suspended his license, and ordered him to get outpatient treatment and complete the Alcohol Highway Safety School on the DUI charges. Joulwan was ordered to serve 12 months probation on the possession charge; 30 days to six months on the driving without a license charge, to be served consecutively to the DUI term; a $25 fine each for disregarding traffic lanes and driving an unregistered vehicle.
