Lansford seeks volunteers to serve on boards, commissions
Lansford Borough Council is seeking volunteers to serve on boards and commissions to assist them in making decisions that affect the community.
Interested people must be over age 18 and a resident of Lansford.In 2016 the following boards have vacancies:Planning commissionThe planning commission consists of three members who meet as needed. There are three open seats. Each seat has a three-year term and meetings are held as needed.The planning commission reviews the borough's comprehensive plan, zoning ordinances, subdivision and land development ordinances and makes recommendations to borough council. The borough's engineering firm, Keystone Consulting engineers, serves as the commission engineering adviser and the borough attorney serves as legal adviser.Zoning hearing boardThe zoning hearing board consists of three members who meet to enforce the zoning ordinances of the borough.The board meets as necessary or when a zoning ordinance is challenged. There are two alternate seats open with four-year terms.Recreation commissionThe Recreation commission consists of five members who serve five-year terms. The commission deals with issues that affect park and playground areas.The commission meets evenings on the second Thursday of each month. There are two open seats.Other positionsOne registered voter is needed to serve on the vacancy board. This person serves only when there is a vacancy in a borough elected office and council is unable to fill the vacancy within 30 days.The current health officer seat is vacant. The health officer must be experienced in public health work (doctor, nurse) and will enforce the health ordinances of the borough.There is one vacant salaried seat on the Lansford-Coaldale Water Authority with a five-year term. Applicants must be able to attend monthly meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 3:45 p.m.Residents interested in any of the openings should send a letter of interest to the borough secretary, 1 W.
