Woman shot by coyote hunter

A Vernon, New Jersey woman was slightly injured when a Lehighton man hunting coyotes in East Penn Township accidentally shot her on Sunday.

State Game Commission officials interviewed Michael Harvan who said he was hunting coyotes when he mistook the woman for game, said Bill Williams, information and education supervisor for the Game Commission’s northeast region.Crews were dispatched to the scene at 11 a.m.The woman was identified as Sharon Krause.Her leg was grazed by a bullet, and she was taken to the Gnaden Huetten campus of Blue Mountain Health System for treatment, Williams said.The game commission is still investigating the incident, which happened on State Game Land 217.Williams said it has yet to be determined whether any charges will be filed against Harvan.According to the game commission, during most of the year coyotes may be hunted with only a general license, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
