Three members of the Tamaqua Area Board of Education received certificates of distinction for having served their community for a milestone number of years.

At Tuesday regular board meeting held at the Tamaqua Area High School and Middle School Campus, Superintendent Carol Makuta presented framed certificates of appreciation from the Pennsylvania State School Boards Association to Eileen Meiser, Daniel Schoener and Larry Wittig for a combined 48 years of service.Meiser has served the school board for eight years, while Wittig and Schoener have served for 20.The certificates symbolize the addition of their names to the PSBA Honor Roll of School Board Service.According to Makuta, school directors continually spend much of their personal time on school-related activities.On average, school board members put in about two and a half working days per months as nonpaid volunteers.Makuta said they exemplify leadership and dedication and their effort reflect their solid commitment to children, their community and public education.
