Ten juniors and three seniors joined the Daniel I. Farren Chapter of Lehighton Area High School's National Honor Society recently during the high school's induction ceremony.

Following a piano prelude by Ketorah Hinkle, NHS adviser Laura Schiffer welcomed family and friends to the induction.She commended the students for their well-rounded personalities and explained that the NHS members have stepped up to the challenge she set forth last year.A prayer was then given by NHS senior member Megan Pomposello, followed by senior Allison Butrie reading a brief history of the National Honor Society. The descriptions of the four virtues that a student must possess when they are a member of the society were read by fellow senior NHS members.Cammi Nalesnik spoke of scholarship; Zachary Kemmerer read leadership; Devon Linaberry read character; and Autumn Bickert read service.Vice President Zachary Kemmerer then introduced the present members before turning over the podium to NHS President Thomas Phelan, who introduced guest speaker, former NHS President Kyle HigginsHiggins is currently studying at Lehigh University.He stressed to the students that they need to work hard, have focus and dedication and follow their passions."NHS is an accomplishment," he told the members and inductees, adding that NHS opened doors for him because he learned personal skills that helped him when he got into college."You are in a lead group," Higgins said. "These connections will be a foot in the door."Following Higgin's speech, Phelan introduced the new inductees.The new NHS inductees are: seniors Susan Cook, Tegan Durishin and Kirsten Shupp; and juniors - Julia Banning, Tia Brownmiller, Tyler Dietz, Andrew Ebbert, Matthew Eckhart, Kaitlin Higgins, Elise Johnston, Brianna Keiser, McKenna Knappenberger and Morgan Yurasits.Senior members are: Daniel Baka, Autumn Bickert, Caleb Carpenter, Zachary Christoff, Wyatt Clements, Benjamin Cordova, Christina Drofich, Connor Frey, Haley Haggerty, Jacob Hoffner, Brody Hydro, Alyssa Jordan, Zachary Kemmerer, Joshua Knappenberger, Kirsten LeVan, Devon Linaberry, Sara Martz, Cammi Nalesnik, Megan Nanovic, Thomas Phelan, Jennifer Plocinik, Megan Pomposello, Rene Ronemus, Andrea Schafer, Madison Teno and Tanner Zwetolitz.Closing remarks were provided by Craig Reichl, Lehighton administrator.He congratulated each of the students and their parents for the hard work they have done to reach this level of excellence."I wish the members and inductees continued success," he said. "You set high standards for those who will come after you."Following the ceremony, a reception was held for family and friends in the hallway of the school.
