Five first-time defendants in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record his wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.Kenneth R. Liebold, 29, of Lehighton, was placed for 18 months on a charge of driving under the influence. He was arrested on July 18 along Mauch Chunk Street by Mahoning Township police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 for the cost of the program, ordered to render 75 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Donna Marie Slaw, 55, of Lehighton, was placed for 6 months on a DUI charge. She was arrested on July 6 by Lehighton police along Mahoning Street. A test showed 0.15 BAC.She was assessed $500, ordered to render 25 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 30 days.Rudolph Wayne Black Jr., 41, of Albrightsville, was placed for 18 months on a charge of materially false written statement for purchase. He was arrested by Franklin Township police on Nov. 1, 2014, for attempting to buy a firearm at Buck's Sporting Goods when he was prohibited from such a purchase.He was assessed $450 and ordered to render 75 hours of community service.Karen Elizabeth Boehm, 54, of Lehighton, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. She was arrested on July 31, 2012, along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive, by Mahoning Township police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $650, ordered to render 10 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.Thomas John Zellers, 32, of Whitehall, was placed for a year on a DUI charge. He was arrested on May 22 by state police at Lehighton along Hahns Dairy Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. A test showed 0.24 BAC.He was assessed $550, ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
