Tuesday night Chestnuthill supervisors voted to advertise the 2016 budget with plans to adopt it during the Dec. 15 meeting.

The new budget has no new taxes. The tax revenue will hold steady at 5.2 mills for Chestnuthill Township municipal/road budget, 1 mill dedicated fire tax for West End Fire Company and 0.25 mill dedicated EMS tax for the West End Ambulance, for a total of 6.45 mills.The 2016 budget has an anticipated increase in spending of $1,248,078 over 2015. The increases are due to expected increases in liquid fuels money which is derived from the increased gasoline tax that went into effect last year. Additional revenue is expected from grant programs."Our staff has worked very hard in the past applying for grants to assist us with capital improvements," said supervisor Chris Eckert. "They deserve a big thank you for what they do. We anticipate receiving grants for some of the items on the budget and if we do not get the grants we simply will not proceed with the project."According to Eckert, the township's 155 miles of roads ranks Chestnuthill fifth in the state. The township has budgeted $2,406,279 for highway and street maintenance in 2016. This is the largest expense for the township. The proposed number includes snow and ice treatment.The board also accepted the resignation of Nancy Beck from the planning commission. Robert Geyer was appointed to fill her unexpired term.The supervisors also accepted the recommendation of the planning commission and granted approval for the conditional use application of Rogue Audio. Rogue Audio manufactures amplifiers in the township and will be constructing a larger facility on Jenna Drive. The new facility will be 6,000 square feet and employ 13.
