Hazleton man charged with heroin distribution

The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that a Criminal Information was filed Oct. 19, 2015 in U.S. District Court in Scranton charging Jacob Davis, a 30-year-old Hazleton resident with distribution and possession with intent to distribute heroin during a three-month period in the Hazleton area between June and August of this year.

The charge resulted from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Pennsylvania State Police, and Hazleton Police.

The government also filed a plea agreement with the defendant which is subject to the approval of the court.

The maximum penalty under federal law is imprisonment for 20 years, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a $1 million fine. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the Judge is also required to consider and weigh a number of factors, including the

nature, circumstances and seriousness of the offense; the history and characteristics of the defendant; and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public and provide for the defendant's educational, vocational and medical needs
