Subs question Pleasant Valley

A substitute worker questioned Pleasant Valley School District's hiring practices Thursday.

During the citizen's comment section of the meeting, substitute custodian Deb Vanhorn of Eldred Township commented that she and many of her fellow substitutes have applied for jobs and were not offered interviews.Vanhorn was specifically upset because a new full-time custodian was listed to be hired for the high school.Vanhorn said she had applied for that job in particular, and that she believed she has done a very good job for her five years with the district and is very upset that she wasn't granted an interview."You cannot expect people to continue to do their best work if they believe that there is no chance for advancement," Vanhorn said. When the new hire came up for approval, three of the board members voted no.The board approved hiring MiChelle Palmer at a rate of $15.02 an hour.Other hires included:• Kimberly Baldino-Waldenmayer, Rachel Voulo, Kimberly Wimmer, Tara Hyland and Kimberly Wimmer, substitute paraprofessional associates.• Ligia Delorme, Alexis Gebhart, Mary Anne Peleschak, Jasmine Hnedak, Amalie James, Georgia Fernicola and Amy Eckert, part-time paraprofessionals, at a salary of $10,521 each.• Michael Gold, full-time paraprofessional, $21,043.• Kathleen Maltez, library paraprofessional , $21,043.• Deanna Tucciarone, substitute teacher.
