A young woman was seriously injured Friday afternoon in a crash along Mahoning Mountain Road in East Penn Township.

The crash occurred just after 4 p.m. as she was driving west just past the intersection with Christman Road. She apparently failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway crashing into a large tree head-on. Upon impact her car burst into flames. A passerby managed to pull her from the inferno. The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Mahoning Valley Ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
