Lehighton records wins in three different sports

Lehighton received wins from three of its teams over the weekend.

Both the Indian boys' and girls' soccer squads earned victories, while the field hockey squad also posted a win.GIRLS SOCCERN'western-Moravian Aca.Northwestern pulled out a 2-0 Colonial League win over Moravian Academy.Emily Renner and Sara Hathway both had goals for the Tigers.Northwestern keeper McKenna Amey recorded eight saves to earn the shutout.Lehighton-WilsonLehighton defeated Wilson in a non-league game, 8-0.Morgan Yurasits had five goals, including the first four of the game, to give the Indians a 4-0 lead.Rajah Quinones added a goal and three assists while Hannah Schatz and Elizabeth Eckhart each finished with a goal. Thera Hibbler chipped in with an assist.Julia Frey had seven saves for Lehighton, which finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots.Jim Thorpe-WeatherlyJim Thorpe cruised past Weatherly in a Schuylkill League contest, 8-0.The Lady Olympians scored six goals in the second half.Ilse Hassler and Autumn Cope each scored twice for Jim Thorpe. Allie Rossino, Elise Johnston, Maura Phelan, Mckenzie Hoats, and Lexi Pantella all had assists during the win.Lehighton racked up an incredible 42 shots on goal during the offensive outburst.Lehighton improves to 3-0-1 overall, and the Timberwolves fall to 1-3.Dallas-NorthwesternDallas defeated Northwestern in a non-league contest, 1-0.The score was tied at intermission, but Maddie Kelley of Dallas scored what was the game-winner at the 9:40 mark of the second half.The Lady Tigers had 17 shots on goal, but couldn't cash in. Dallas finished with nine shots on goal.Catasauqua-PalmertonQuinn Bachman had two goals and three assists to lead Catasauqua to a 7-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.The Roughies also received two goals from Jackie Garner and Olivia Schlofer, while Selena Safradi added three assists.BOYS SOCCERPottsville-TamaquaPottsville defeated Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League contest, 4-3.Eli Wood paced the Tide with two goals, while Fernando Rivera added a goal and an assist. Maldeen Thomas also scored for the winners.The Raiders' Robert Stidham scored two goals, one in each half. Haven InvitationalJim Thorpe's Dylan Bucior and Kayley Kovac both earned individual wins at the 9th Annual 'Canes Invitation in Schuylkill Haven.The Tamaqua girls also claimed a title, winning the team championship.Bucior finished the course in 17:01 to easily defeat runner-up Wyatt Conrad of Hamburg. His first place also helped the Olympian boys' take second place.Other Times News area boys that finished in the top 10 included Tamaqua's Adam Melnick (sixth) and Joseph Nortavage (seventh). Their efforts aided the Raiders' third-place finish.Kovac took the girls race, barely edging out teammate Delana Nalesnik for the top spot. Kovac broke the tape in 20:44 while Nalesnik finished one second later.The Lady Raiders' top five runners finished between third and 12th to easily capture the team title. She also added seven blocks and three aces.Noel Kelly finished with 24 kills and six aces while Veronica Roberts chipped in with 18 kills and eight digs.The Bears also received a well-rounded effort from Sofia Janak (44 assists, 28 digs, eight kills, five aces and four blocks) and Alexis Richy (32 assists, 11 digs, three kills and three aces).Garden Spot TournamentMarian went 0-8 at the Garden Spot Tournament, dropping games to Warwick, State College, Bishop Shanahan and host Garden Spot.All four of the Fillies' opponents compete in Class AAA.Maureen Kloap paced Marian with 25 digs, 14 kills and four aces, while Jasmine Mooney added 21 digs, eight kills and four blocks.
