The North Central Pennsylvania Regional DUI Enforcement Program has released results of a DUI/Sobriety Checkpoint and a Roving DUI Patrol held recently in Schuylkill County.
The sobriety checkpoint was held Aug. 29 in Coaldale and was a joint operation with state police. It was conducted by 14 officers representing eight law enforcement departments. Officers made contact with 365 vehicles and detained 28 of them. Two operators were tested for driving under the influence. Both were cleared. Officers also made 120 traffic arrests, found three seat belt violations and issued 15 warnings.A roving patrol was held Sept. 5 by six officers representing six departments. A total of 59 vehicles were contacted and detained. Seven drivers were tested for DUI with one adult arrested. Officers also reported one criminal and 16 traffic arrests and issued 42 warnings.DUI enforcement efforts will continue to be conducted through Sept. 16 on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.The checkpoints and patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.Motorists are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunken driver.
