CARBON COURT - DUI CASES
A Carbon County woman was sentenced to prison terms on two driving under the influence charges on Tuesday.
She was one of three defendants in drunken driving cases to be sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Dillion Nicole Koch, 25, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve a total of three to 12 months in prison on the two DUI counts. She previously pleaded guilty to the charges.She was arrested on the first count on Nov. 9, 2013, along Route 209 by Franklin Township police. The second arrest occurred on Nov. 22, 2013, along North Third Street by Lehighton police. In both cases blood tests revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Koch told Nanovic she was addicted to heroin and completed a 32 days inpatient rehabilitation program. She is also getting counseling.On the first DUI Nanovic sentenced her to serve 1 to 6 months in prison, a fine of $1,000, and one-year license suspension. On the second count she was sentenced to serve two to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and another year suspension. The terms run consecutively.Nanovic gave her credit for time spent in rehab and prison on the charges, which totaled 123 days and she was paroled. He also ordered her to continue her counseling until she was successfully discharged from the program.Other casesOther defendants sentenced on DUI cases included:Faith E. Spiker, 26, of Whitehall, was arrested on March 27, 2013, along Franklin Street in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance. She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition program but was revoked for violating conditions.She was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,500 and 1 year license suspension. She begins the jail term at 5 p.m. on Sept. 15.Steven Todd Moyer, 41, of Bethlehem, was arrested on May 5, 2013, at Beltzville State Park in Towamensing Township by park rangers. A test showed 0.19 BAC. He was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked for violating conditions.He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and 1 year license suspension. He was given credit for 19 days served on the charge and was paroled.Robert E. Keister, 26, of McAdoo, was arrested on Feb. 22, 2015, along Tamaqua Street in Beaver Meadows. Given a test, the result was .10BAC. He also pleaded to driving under suspension-DUI related.On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 10 days to 6 months in prison, a fine of $500, and 1 year license suspension. He was given credit for 10 days already served and parole.On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail, a fine of $1,000 and another year license suspension. He will serve that time on consecutive weekends beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 18.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
