Police release description of suspect wanted in connection with West Penn officer assault

State police have released a description of the suspect wanted in connection with the assault of a West Penn Township police officer Wednesday evening.

Sgt. Melissa Ruch was assaulted along Route 309, near the top of the Blue Mountain, just before 5 p.m.According to state police at the Frackville barracks Ruch sustained non-life threatening injuries after encountering a dark colored Nissan Maxima.As Ruch approached, a male came around the car, picked her up and threw her down an embankment.Ruch was rushed to a waiting medical helicopter at the intersection of Routes 309 and 895 in Snyders and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest.A manhunt followed as police from Carbon and Schuylkill counties converged on the area.Troopers say they are looking for a Hispanic male, believed to be about 6-foot, 2-inches to 6-foot, 4-inches in height. He is described as being “heavy set,” estimated to weigh about 240-260 pounds, and was wearing a black t-shirt and jean shorts at the time of the assault.Anyone with information about the incident or man is asked to contact state police at 570-874-5300.
