Chestnuthill to add new plow truck to fleet

Chestnuthill Township will be adding a new single-axle dump truck with a stainless steel body to its fleet of trucks. The new truck will come with a plow and spreader and will be purchased under the Costars program. The truck will cost $157,092.

"The truck will be in the 2016 budget," said township manager David Albright. "We are looking to finance it out two to three years."Albright said the township had a fleet of 10 trucks for a long time, but that recently they were running with only nine. Part of the payments for the new truck will come out of the liquid fuels money. The township is permitted to use 20 percent of the liquid fuels budget for such payments. The supervisors also agreed to authorize a request for bids for its 1987 bucket truck and sweeper. The items are no longer cost effective for the township to maintain. The township will look into replacing the bucket truck with a newer model in the future. With winter creeping up the supervisors are also looking to repair both salt sheds maintained by the township. The sheds, one which is behind the municipal building and one that is located on Route 115 are both metal above concrete design. The metal is rusted and bulging and needs to be replaced. Albright would also like to see a lean-to built onto the Route 115 shed to house the front-end loader kept at that site. The cost of replacing the metal and building the shed will be $154,000. The township will be requesting an LSA grant to cover the cost. The supervisors also voted to advertise for snow removal contractors.Bills were paid in the amount of $69,384. Also an additional $38,832 was paid out to West End Community Ambulance from the EMS Tax Fund.
