Albert Lichty, mayor of Weissport, was named to serve as president of the Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission.

Mayor Wilbur Bauchspies of Lehighton was elected vice president and Reuben Hill of Franklin Township was selected to be the secretary and treasurer.Other commission members include Lamar Houser, Parryville; Clair Rehrig, East Penn Township; and Richard Semmel, Lehighton.Among their duties is overseeing about 100 acres of land between Jim Thorpe and Parryville, along the Lehigh Canal, that has been set aside for recreational use.
