Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Co. to host 11th annual horse show

Eleven years ago the Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company wanted to buy a safety van and needed to come up with a way to make the down payment of $10,000.

Charles Getz, the owner of the farm adjacent to the firehouse suggested a horse show. He has hosted the horse show every year since its inception. The horse show will take place rain or shine on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will be at the Getz Farm, located at the intersection of Route 534 and North Old Stage Road, Albrightsville. Admission is free for spectators."That first year we raised about $10,000," said first assistant chief Bruce Berger. "We actually made enough for the down payment on the van."According to Berger the show usually raises between $3,000 to $5,000 per year. The money raised goes to offset operating expenses at the fire house."We will have 28 classes, English, Western, Gymkahna and miniature horses as well," said committee member, Julie Rhodes. "We have all levels of riders."This year the judge will be David Zanders and veterinarian Renny Shoop will be on hand. The show announcers this year will be Eileen and Justin Hoffman.Rhodes said that there will be food available and there is space available for vendors who might be interested.Anyone interested in more information may contact Rhodes at 570-436-3030.Also going on in Albrightsville on Saturday is Pet a Pet for a Vet at Schoolhouse Central adjacent to the firehouse. Visitors are invited to come and pet and snuggle with rescue animals and stuffed animals and support our troops in the process.Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the schoolhouse.Call 570-926-9250 or check out the group's Facebook page for more information.
