Community festival
The 26th Annual Palmerton Community Festival is scheduled for Sept. 11 from 5-11 p.m., Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sept. 13 from noon to 9 p.m. in the Palmerton Borough Park. The event is held rain or shine. There is no admission charge. There is fun for the entire family including free continuous entertainment, rides, Chinese auction, games and crafts. The annual Duck Race will be on Sunday afternoon. There will be plenty of homemade foods.There is free parking. Handicapped parking is available in the area of the Palmerton Police Department and the Parkside School.For everyone's safety, pets, bikes, skateboards or roller skates, etc. of any type are not allowed in the park the entire weekend.For information, visit at
www.palmertonfestival.com.Class of 1970The Palmerton Area High School Class of 1970 will hold its 45th class reunion on Oct. 17, at the Blue Shamrock (formerly the Blue Ridge Country Club), 2230 Fireline Road, Palmerton.The reunion will begin with cocktail and social hour from 4-5 p.m. A class photo will follow. A dinner buffet will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Live entertainment by the Band of Brothers will be from 7-10 p.m. Cash bar only.The deadline for reservations is Sept. 1. They also will be holding a Cash Bingo and Basket Raffle on November 1, at the West End Fire Company.Lions Clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work to fulfill those needs. The Palmerton Club meets the first and third Monday of each month. www.bowmanstownrgc.8m.com.Blood driveMiller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct a community blood drive on Sept. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at First United Church of Christ, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.This drive will be sponsored by Gnaden Huetten Chapter 203, Order of Eastern Star, in memory of Jean Behler.The Palmerton area is fortunate to have a number of faithful donors, but more volunteers are always needed to reach their goals. Anyone over 17, weighing at least 110 pounds, and in general good health is eligible. First-time Miller donors will need photo ID, such as a driver's license. It will be held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church hall, 243 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.Paintings in all media, photography in color and black and white, and all mixed media will be accepted.This year, there will be a separate category to commemorate the club's 100th anniversary.
