A Palmerton man has been accused of stealing a woman's phone from a business in the borough.

Police charged 28-year-old Anthony Robert McGraw with theft earlier this month.According to a search warrant affidavit, on the afternoon of Aug. 6, McGraw asked for the woman's phone while they were inside the Beer Zone on Delaware Avenue, then he walked outside to use it.Instead of returning to the store, McGraw allegedly got in a truck and exited the parking lot.After repeated phone calls went unanswered, the woman reached McGraw around 6:20 p.m., who said that he was in the park, and intended to return the phone. Two hours after that, when McGraw never returned, police got in touch with him.At that time, McGraw said that he gave the phone to another man, but police checked that story and found it to be false.McGraw faces misdemeanor charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen property.A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 30.
