Most of the schools in Carbon County were back in session Monday, and administrators say there were no major hangups.
Lehighton, Tamaqua, Weatherly, Palmerton, Northern Lehigh and Panther Valley School Districts all had their first day of school on Monday.Administrators said that there were few major issues, outside of the normal first day growing pains."I would have to say, it went as smooth as can be expected when you're moving 2,100 kids around," said Carol Makuta, Tamaqua School District superintendent.Making sure the bus schedule works is always a big concern at the beginning of the year.Panther Valley eliminated a bus run over the summer as part of the plan to reconfigure its schools. Superintendent Dennis Kergick said despite the changes, there were few issues with transportation."Transportation is always a big concern at the start of the school year," Kergick said."For the most part, it went smoothly."The other common issue around the beginning of the school year is student schedules.Kergick said with Panther Valley's reconfiguration, and new software for scheduling, there will need to be some "tweaking" to some students schedules.
