Special Olympics fundraising events planned this weekend
Supporters of Carbon County Special Olympics can ride to raise funds for the group through a triad of activities on Saturday.
A Dream Ride Experience Weekend, The Dream Ride D&L Trail Bike Tour and a poker run are among the three ways to ride, according to Dave Rodrigues, CC Special Olympics competition coordinator.Rodrigues said all involved agreed to join forces "to raise money for Special Olympics.""We were made aware of it last year, and wanted to help them and help our local Carbon County Special Olympics," Rodrigues said. "In order to do that, we wanted to create an atmosphere that was going to be eventful and draw attention to this event."• The 2015 Dream Ride Experience will depart from three locations at 9 a.m. Locally, it will leave from Keystone Harley-Davidson in Parryville. All locations will travel to Farmington, Connecticut, for Dream Ride 2015 on Sunday. The Dream Ride now spans 12 states, with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics programs on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.• The Dream Ride D&L Bike Tour: Motorcyclists registration/check-in is from 9-10 a.m. at Keystone Harley-Davidson. Bicyclists start location is at 10:30 a.m., with departure from the Lehighton Trailhead. The end location is 8 miles to Lehigh Gap Nature Center, where it will then return to the Lehighton Trailhead. It will include lunch, entertainment and a meet and greet reception with the Special Olympics athletes.• Poker Run registration and departure from Keystone Harley-Davidson, Parryville. Registration is at Keystone Harley-Davidson from 9:30-10:30 a.m. "Kickstands Up" send-off for Dream Ride Experience; participants will leave for Connecticut between 10 and 10:10 a.m. The Poker Run departure will be from 10:15-10:30 a.m. Participants can be a part of the Boat Yard "5th Card" from 1-3 p.m. with a meal and entertainment to follow. A full meal is included. A cash bar is available. Entertainment is provided by DJ Hammer.
