A Carbon County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempting to smuggle drugs into the county prison in his dentures.
He was immediately sentenced to a state prison term.John Charles Sabol, 52, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of contraband into a prison, a felony two, before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic.Nanovic was sentenced him to serve 15 to 36 months in a state correctional institution.Sabol was arrested on Feb. 10 by Nesquehoning police after they were called to the county prison.While Sabol was being strip-searched while being admitted to the jail on other criminal counts, guards found a strip of suboxone under his upper dentures.Sabol was on parole at the time on a drug charge and was being jailed on a violation of his parole on that count when the incident occurred.Sabol admitted to an heroin addiction.When asked by Nanovic if had anything to say, he replied, "I have nothing to say."Sabol is facing a parole/probation revocation hearing.In addition to the jail term Sabol was ordered to supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.He was given credit for 174 days already spent in prison on the charge.
