Maryland woman admits to DUI with her young son in the vehicle

A Maryland woman pleaded guilty before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II in Carbon County court on Thursday to driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child.

Vehicle stopCeila Yashira Ortega, 33, of Moonshine Hollow, was arrested by state police at Lehighton on Feb. 22 along Route 209 in Towamensing Township. She was pulled over for erratic driving.At the stop troopers found Ortega's 12-year-old son in the vehicle. A test revealed a 0.16 BAC.Ortega said she has a history of mental health issues which she is addressing.On the DUI charge Nanovic sentenced her to serve five days to two years in jail, a fine of $1,000, license suspended for 18 months, pay court costs, pay a $50 per month supervision feel when paroled, and render 100 hours of community service.Nanovic ruled the endangering charge merges with the drunken driving count for sentencing purposes.She will begin her jail term at 7 p.m. Sunday.
