Defendants enter pleas in DUI cases

Five defendants in pending DUI cases entered pleas before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II in Carbon County court on Thursday.

Kenneth Allen Wanamaker Jr., 37, of Walnutport, was arrested on Nov. 8, 2013, along Route 248 at Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Troopers found illegal drugs in the vehicle.Sentencing was deferred so Wanamaker could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Gerald Vincent Niehoff, 34, of Lehighton, was arrested on April 29 along Mahoning Street in Mahoning Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Niehoff can obtain a D&A evaluation. He is currently in jail facing a state parole violation.Scott Michael Castone, 44, of Saylorsburg, was arrested on Sept. 27, 2014, along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Castone could obtain a D&A evaluation.Susan Ann Zelienka, 53, of Palmerton, was arrested on May 3 in the 700 block of West Edgemont Avenue by Palmerton police. A test showed 0.11 BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Jean Marie Strubeck, 50, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 25 along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance and a 0.05 BAC.Nanovic sentenced her to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $2,500, one year license suspension, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.She was given credit for 28 days spent in a inpatient rehabilitation program and was paroled.
