Carbon commissioners approve farm preservation

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on the following items this week:

• Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard announced that the 20th farm has been approved for the Farmland Preservation Program in the county. The 50-acre farm, owned by Dennis and Deanna Cunfer in East Penn Township, will be included in the over 1,500 acres of land already preserved in the program.• Gerhard announced that Rose Reese, a certified Tellington TTouch trainer for animals, will give a free presentation on TTouch at the shelter at 10 a.m. Saturday.The presentation will explain the benefits this type of touch has on animal behaviors. Donations for the shelter will be accepted.• Approved the renewal of the State Offender Supervision fee five-year agreement. The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole will return the fees received by the Department of Revenue from the county between May 1 and April 30, 2016.• Approved the reappointment of Dorothy Eberts of Andreas to a three-year term on the Carbon-Monroe-Pike Mental Health/Developmental Services Advisory Board.• Approve the State Homeland Security Grant Program agreement between the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force for U.S. Department of Homeland Security fiscal year 2015. The agreement, which awards the task force $1,039,348, is effective from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, 2018.The money will be used by the task force, which consists of Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Susquehanna and Wayne counties for various projects that range from training to equipment purchases.
