Competitive bids flew from every corner of the crowded tent, and the anticipation was high. Not everyone seemed to feel the excitement though one particularly jovial pig drew much attention and amusement from the crowd when he took time out of his routine to make friends with the auctioneer.Among those bidding for coveted items ranging from tapestries to livestock was state Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon."We always like to get involved in the livestock auction," said Heffley, toting a beautiful handmade wall hanging."We bought some tapestries to hang up in our offices in Harrisburg show them a little bit of what Carbon County is all about."Among the prize-winning cattle auctioned at Saturday's fair was 14-year-old Ryanne Hoffman's Reserve Champion market swine.Diane Hoffman, mother and 4-H volunteer, expressed her excitement over the success of the auction for the young members. "They care about this. It really means a lot to them all."
