Township seeks volunteers to help mark 175th anniversary

Lower Towamensing Township is in search of volunteers to form a committee to help celebrate its 175th anniversary.

Supervisors on Tuesday said they would like to form a committee that would work together to help plan the historic milestone.A kickoff meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the township municipal building.Any interested parties can call the township, supervisors said.Traffic signs requestAlso on Tuesday, supervisors discussed the potential implementation of a pair of signs for traffic crossing at Blue Mountain Ski Resort.Supervisors' Chairman Brent Green said Blue Mountain has requested the signs as a means to increase the safety of the roadway.He said that Barb Green, president of Blue Mountain Ski Resort, has arranged to have a meeting at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 at the ski area.Also figuring to be in attendance at that meeting are a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation representative, as well as township representatives.Grant applicationSupervisors also held discussion on this year's Monroe County Local Share Account Grant application.Green said that if the township were to receive the grant, it could use it toward a dump truck, as well as to finish work at Stoney Ridge

P.A.R.C.Supervisor Ron Walbert suggested that the township consider a tractor with a broom mower.At that, supervisors unanimously agreed to apply for the Monroe County LSA Grant specifically for a tractor and work to Stoney Ridge

P.A.R.C.Budget discussionIn a separate action, supervisors agreed to authorize the borough secretary to start the 2016 budget process.Supervisors said that by Sept. 4, all departments must submit their requests.A budget workshop will be held at the township's municipal building.
