Hearing waived in indecent assault

A Lehighton man accused of the indecent assault of a young girl will have charges bound over to Carbon County Court.

Michael Loy Jr., 30, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.Instead, Loy agreed to waive his right to the hearing, and will appear Oct. 6 for a pretrial status conference in the district attorney's office at the Carbon County Courthouse in Jim Thorpe.Loy has been charged with three counts of indecent assault, and one count each of corruption of minors and harassment by physical contact.He remains free on $40,000 unsecured bail.According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Jason Doll of the Franklin Township Police Department:On June 3, Doll received a report of suspected child abuse, and set up an interview with the victim and her mother for June 12.He was joined in the interview by Jill Geissinger from Carbon County Children and Youth.The juvenile victim said to Doll in a written statement that on May 9, Loy Jr. was drinking and began touching her inappropriately when she was camping.On June 13, Doll conducted an interview with Loy Jr., who was read his Miranda rights, which he waived in writing.Loy provided a statement that said that on May 9, he was outside drinking.He said it was not for a long period of time as he realized what he was doing and stopped.He then told her he was sorry, and did not mean to do that.
