orientationTamaqua Senior High School Principal Stephen Toth has announced the date for orientation for incoming freshmen and new students.Orientation will be held Monday, beginning at 6 p.m., in the school district auditorium. The presentation will take approximately 40 minutes and will be available on the district's website as of Tuesday for anyone unable to be there in person.The website is

Broad St., with 65 members in attendance.President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading, "Peace of Mind."Mary Bittle and Vern Balliet were welcomed back after absences. Phil Price was added to the sick list.The annual picnic will be held Aug. 13 at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club.The group meets at 1 p.m. every Thursday. The next meeting will be on Aug. 6.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.Summer concertsThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its free Summer Concert Series this Thursday with a concert by the Fraser Thomas (acoustic jazz, blues and pop). Concerts are held from 6-8 p.m. on select Thursdays on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season, as sponsorship permits.Other scheduled concerts include: Aug. 13, Amanda and Me; Aug. 20, Steve Brosky and Jimmy Myers (acoustic blues); Sept. 3, Diaspora (classic rock).Sponsorships are still available. The next film will be "Home," which will be shown this Thursday.The movie will begin at dusk, which is approximately 8:30 p.m. Rain date will be Friday, same time.The park is located on Mountain Avenue in the East End section of Tamaqua. Movie lovers of all ages are welcome. There is no admission fee and the concession stand will be open.Bucket booksThe Bucket List Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.The topic for discussion will be the classic "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. The story is narrated by its main character, Holden Caulfield, and deals with the topics of teen rebellion, identity issues and the connections we make with those around us.The plot is as timely today as it when it was published in 1951.
