An investigation by the Lehigh County District Attorney's Drug Task Force has resulted in the arrest of three defendants and the seizure of 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine, a handgun with an obliterated serial number, more than $10,000 in cash and two vehicles.

On Wednesday, the Drug Task Force charged Matthew John Simard, 34, and Clara M. Hamm, 47, both of 252 Virginia Ave., Whitehall Township, with four felony counts each of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and four misdemeanor counts each of possession of methamphetamine.

Jarrid Mitchell Haydt, 28, of 1434 Blue Mountain Drive, Danielsville, is charged with felonies of illegally possessing a firearm and possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer's number and misdemeanors of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also is charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and two misdemeanor counts of possession of methamphetamine.

The investigation started as a result of information received by the Fountain Hill Police Department, said Chief Detective Joseph P. Stauffer of the Drug Task Force. The Task Force was assisted by the Fountain Hill Police Deparment, Upper Saucon Township Police Department, the Whitehall Township Police Department and the Pennsylvania National Guard Counter Drug Unit.

Stauffer said the amount of methamphetamine that was seized has a street value of more than $10,000.

According to the affidavit: On Wednesday, police stopped Hamm and Simard on Route 378 in Upper Saucon Township after learning that they were en route to Fountain Hill to deliver methamphetamine. Hamm and Simard had methamphetamine and a large amount of cash.

A search warrant was executed at 252 Virginia Ave. in Whitehall Township, where police seized more methamphetamine and cash.

Haydt was taken into custody when he arrived at the residence. Police found a firearm with an obliterated serial number, methamphetamine and a digital scale in his vehicle.
