Tax officeThe Coaldale tax office will be closed Monday through Aug. 3 to prepare school taxes for mailing.Normal hours will resume Aug. 4Office hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.If taxpayers qualify for exemption, please return your signed and dated application, in person, along with proof of eligibility. School exemptions must be notarized.NesquehoningHistorical societyThe July meeting of the Nesquehoning Historical Society will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the borough hall, 114 W. Catawissa St.Lois Corby-Kuba will be the featured guest speaker. She will be giving a talk about her research into turn-of-the-century newspaper articles about life in the town of Nesquehoning.Lois is a lifelong resident of Nesquehoning and she is a descendant of the Corbys who operated Corby Hall.The group will also be finalizing plans for a table at the Aug. 15 and 16 Community Festival at the Nesquehoning Hose Company and discussing how they can reach out to the young people of the community to give them an greater opportunity to participate in the historical society.Everyone is invited and there is never any charge to attend events. Light refreshments will be served.
