Woman charged with felony arson

Monday morning was the time set for the preliminary hearing on charges of felony arson and related offenses for Dana L. Dimitriou of Saylorsburg. The hearing was continued until Aug. 17 by the District Justice JoLana Krawitz due to the unavailability of several of the victims.

Dimitriou, 49, was arrested on June 22 following a fire at her home on June 19. Firefighters, the state police and other first responders arrived at the home at 251 Chestnut Drive N. in Saylorsburg at 7:20 p.m. June 19 to find the home in flames.According to the affidavit of probable cause, witnesses at the scene told first responders that Dimitriou may have set the fire and was refusing to leave the home. At that point firefighters and emergency personnel entered the burning home in an effort to find Dimitriou and to extinguish the fire.During a search of the property, Dimitriou was found to be behind a shed on the property drinking beer and smoking a pipe.Among other things, Dimitriou told the police "to let it burn."The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Cpl. Sean Hilbert was called to the scene the same evening. Hilbert said Dimitriou had intentionally set the living room of the residence on fire. He said the homeowner had piled up household goods in the center of the floor before setting the fire.The criminal complaint filed on June 22 charges Dimitriou with felony arson and danger to others.
