A motorcycle crash late Friday night on Route 309 in Lynn Township claimed the lives of ahusband and wife from Kutztown, formerly of Germansville.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks investigated the crash.The Lehigh County Coroner's Office reported David J. Hummel, 52, was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m. at the scene of the crash.His wife, Suzanne L., 51, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where she was pronounced dead at 6:01 a.m. Saturday.Police said the crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. on the south side of Route 309, near Mountain Road. Police said David Hummel was operating the motorcycle that crashed into a downed tree, throwing both him and his wife from the bike.Route 309 was shut downfor an investigation. Schuylkill County fire police assisted by also closing the road at Route 895.Obituaries for the coupleindicate they enjoyed snowmobile and motorcycle riding.Hummel recently became aco-owner of Christman's Septic Service in Kutztown andpreviously was a self-employed independent truck driver for 18 years. His wife was formerly employed in various administrative positions for the Northwestern Lehigh School District.
