Newly elected state Sen. Mario Scavello stopped by Walnutport's monthly council meeting to get better acquainted with the borough.
As Scavello addressed the council he handed out his business card."My background is mayor of a little borough, I know it happens right here. Borough council is kind of a thankless job. You usually only hear from residents when something is wrong."The senator told the council he plans to open small satellite offices in different boroughs and asked to be contacted if there was anything he could do to help the area."We can help," he told the board."I know you all want to hear about the budget, the governor has a different plan. There hasn't been much back-and-forth communication. But we will be back at it on Monday," Scavello said.Scavello served 12 years in the House of Representatives before becoming senator of the 40th district. Currently he serves on the appropriations committee, which regulates how grant money from the government is divvied out.Walnutport, like many other boroughs, uses grant money for common-good updates such as traffic lights and playgrounds.
