Youths honored at breakfast

The Hawk Mountain Council hosted its first annual Service to Youth and Community Breakfast on June 11 at the Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation in Schuylkill Haven.

Over 140 community, civic, and business leaders attended this inaugural event chaired by state Sen. David G. Argall.The Service to Youth and Community Breakfast is a new fundraising event that provided those in attendance an opportunity to network with others, learn about the Scouting programs from the Scouts themselves, and is an opportunity for the Hawk Mountain Council to recognize residents who have provided exemplary community service that has improved the quality of life in Schuylkill County and beyond.Jean and John Hafer Sr., from Tamaqua, and Stephanie Hoysock were awarded with the Service to Youth and Community Award. The award recognizes those who have an unwavering dedication to their communities and youth programs in Schuylkill and Carbon counties.Honorees Albert L. Evans Jr. and Carol and Tim Twardzik were awarded with the first Hawk Mountain Council's Service to Youth and Community Distinguished Citizen Award. The Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes people who throughout their lifetimes have provided their commitment, persistence and leadership to enrich the fabric of life in our communities.Keynote speakers for the event included Hawk Mountain Council's Eagle Scouts Joe Dietrich and Cole Mitchell, who spoke on how their Scouting experiences have helped them develop leadership skills and how the program prepared them for their futures.The funds raised from the Service to Youth and Community Breakfast will assist with the services provided to the Packs, Troops, Venture crews and Explorer posts in Schuylkill County and parts of Carbon County.
