Plans to remodel office are approved in Bowmanstown
At Tuesday's Bowmanstown Borough Council meeting, a unanimous vote gave the go-ahead to remodel the borough office.
Councilman Rob Moyer said, "This project has been going on for months, we will finally be moving ahead with the renovations."When asked about a timeline, Moyer said, "Pencor Construction is the awarded contractor and it will be dependent on their schedule on when the work will be started."The project will cost the borough $5,000 and will renovate the counter area of the current borough hall. It will include moving the existing counter back to allow additional room for residents and visitors, especially those needing the assistance of a wheelchair. It will also include a lower counter area specifically for disabled visitors. It will also include changing the current door, which is solid, to a door with a window to allow for better viewing of the visitors as they enter.Moyer said, "The borough budgeted $5,200 for this project, and the project has come in under budget at $5,000."Compost facilityBowmanstown will soon be getting a compost facility.Council approved the action to file an application with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for a compost facility. This application will require the borough to follow the suggested guidelines established by DEP in managing a compost facility.Moyer said, "The compost facility will be located at the Borough Garage on Spring Street. It will allow residents to dispose of yard waste, which will be turned into to compost."Committee reorganizedAs a final agenda item, Council President Kara Scott said she and Council Vice President Pam Leiby, "have discussed some issues and have decided to reorganize the committees."While the budget, personnel and law committee assignments are unchanged, Councilman Norman Engle will chair the streets committee. Councilman John Domant will chair the sewer committee. Councilman Rob Moyer will chair the property committee and Councilman Darren Thomas will now chair the fire committee.Neither Scott nor Leiby provided further explanation for the reorganization. The meeting was adjourned following this announcement and council members vacated the chambers rather abruptly.
