Tamaqua woman hit by car

A Tamaqua woman was injured Wednesday afternoon after she was hit by a car while crossing the street at the intersection of Broad and Greenwood Streets.

Tamaqua Police were dispatched to the intersection at 4:38 p.m. and found Laurie Nothstein, 49, of 201 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, lying on the street, next to the southeast curb.According to witnesses, Nothstein stepped off the curb, into a 1997 Toyota, which was operated by Robert Weyhenmeyer, 68, of 227 Orwigsburg St., Tamaqua. The Toyota had been traveling north on Greenwood Street, turning right on to East Broad Street. Weyhenmeyer had the green light.Witnesses say Nothstein did not look for traffic before stepping into the street.Nothstein was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital-Coaldale campus, by ambulance for treatment of hip and leg injuries, including broken bones.
