The 10th annual Race Street Run will be held on Saturday.
The 15K event begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 4-mile event begins at 8:45.Both start in front of the Carbon County Court House and end at St. Mark's church on Race Street.The course for the 15K goes west on Broadway to the old bus road then on the Switchback trial to Mauch Chunk Lake.At the main entrance to the park they turn around and retrace their steps east on the trail and Broadway to Race Street and finish in front of the church.The 4 milers take the same route but turn around just shy of theborough water treatment plant and return to Race Street via Broadway.There will be awards for the first, second and third overall male and female contestants in both events.Age groups will generally follow 5-year divisions with no duplications.Refreshments and awards will be held after each event finishes.The race will be held rain or shine.The event benefits St. Mark's and St. John'sEpiscopal Church.Information and entry forms can be found at
www.racestreetrun.org and we are also on Facebook.At 8:30 and again at 8:45 the section of Broadway from the courthouse to the Opera House will be temporarily closed for the start of each event but will reopen at about 8:50 a.m.West Broadway and Lentz trail will be closed to all but emergency traffic from 8:30 until approximately 10:30 from the opera house to Coal Street.Race Street will also be closed during that time period. Jim Thorpe Police officers will be directing traffic and will be responsible for enforcing the road closure.
